In his position as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Justice Thomas has, over the course of many years, abused his power to protect and advance his own personal interests and those of his wife and family. Justice Thomas has accepted and failed to disclose his receipt of hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and other financial benefits from Harlan Crow – the Republican billionaire and activist whose organizations regularly file briefs in the Supreme Court advocating positions that Thomas reliably adopts. Thomas has also refused to recuse himself from matters before the Court in which his wife had an interest, including attempts to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election, and anti-voting rights positions advocated by an organization that secretly had his wife on its payroll.
These actions undermine the impartiality and legitimacy of the Court and violate the public’s trust.
Congress has the authority and obligation to impeach Justice Thomas under the U.S. Constitution, which states that civil officers of the United States “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” including corruption and abuse of power. Justice Thomas has unquestionably met these criteria.
Sign if you agree: The House Judiciary Committee must begin impeachment proceedings against Justice Thomas.
